Our family visited Dutch Wonderland for the first time in summer 2021. Our Dutch Wonderland trip was our first family outing during the pandemic. My husband and I went on a  romantic birthday getaway in the spring, but this was the first outing we did with the children. As you can imagine, our kids were super excited about this trip. Dutch Wonderland did not disappoint. We had a ball from the minute we entered the castle gates to the moment we exited.

Dutch Wonderland is a local treasure

Dutch Wonderland is local to the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. It was less than two hours from where we live in Delaware. Fortunately for us, there was no traffic, and the commute to Dutch Wonderland was not bad at all. We left our house at 9:30 am and arrived around 11:15 am. Additionally, we also attended on a weekday which I think helped with the crowds. We never waited more than 10 minutes for any ride. In most cases, we didn’t wait at all.

Dutch Wonderland was perfect for my kids’ ages; Annalise was 5, and Deuce was 3. I loved this park because we were not limited to a small children’s section with a handful of rides to entertain my children. The entire park was their playground. This theme park was created with families with young kids in mind. The park has over 35 rides and attractions; Duke’s Lagoon, a water play area, and live entertainment were available throughout the day. The park is the perfect size for little feet. It’s not too big and not too small.

While Dutch Wonderland is geared towards younger children, it is absolutely a place that people of all ages can enjoy. Furthermore, there were several rides that parents and older children could ride on with small children. Some rides were geared towards adults.

The Harrison family’s favorite moments

Me, hubby, Annalise, Deuce, and Mimi (my mother) went on this trip. We all had different favorite things and moments. Big Martin is a native Philadelphian, and he loved that he was able to get some Rita’s ice cream while we were there. Mimi enjoyed the trolley ride around the park. Annalise’s favorite place was Exploration Island, where 20+ Dinosaurs came to life! On the other hand, Deuce is a simple guy; he wanted to ride the carousel over and over. I loved seeing the happiness exude from my family’s faces.

There is an entire section of Dutch Wonderland dedicated to water rides, and it is called Duke’s Lagoon. While we did not have a chance to take advantage of it on this visit, we could see the families having a ball. When we go back, we will visit that area first.

Final Thoughts

Our family passes Dutch Wonderland on our annual family trip to Pittsburgh to visit my father every year. I always wondered about this castle theme park that we saw on the side of the road, but now I know that it lives up to the hype. There were lots of tears when it was time to leave. Those tears were proof of the great time we had. Our family is definitely going back. We are looking forward to making this an annual family tradition.

Has your family been to Dutch Wonderland? If so, what was your experience? If not, what’s an annual summer tradition for your family?
