For my 35th Birthday, Martin and I went on a quick romantic getaway to the Glasbern Inn. As a family, we visited Dutch Wonderland, but this was our first trip as a married couple since the pandemic. It was also our first time away from our children for an extended amount of time. We decided to stay somewhere local if there was an issue with the children, and we needed to get back quickly.
The Glasbern Inn is located in Fogelsville, PA. It took us about 1.5 hours to get there from where we live in Delaware. It was once a working farm, but now the guest rooms are restored cottages and converted barns. We stayed there one other time about 2 years ago. Having visited before, we felt like it would provide the rest and relaxation we needed after having experienced the pandemic in 2020.
The Glassbern Inn Resort
The Glasbern Inn has over 150 acres of picturesque rolling hills and a beautiful pond. There are several walking trails, which we took advantage of. I love spending time in nature and was excited to take advantage of all of the outdoor space that the Glasbern Inn has to offer. In addition, there is a Spa on the grounds, a gym, and a heated outdoor pool. There is also a farm-to-table restaurant that we took advantage of. The food was delicious!
The Room
The last time we stayed, our room was in the farmhouse. This time, we stayed in one of the Packhouse Suites. In both instances, we loved our room. Our room was west facing which gave us a great view of the sunset and the pond. The Packhouse room had a beautiful cathedral ceiling. Our room also had a whirlpool, fireplace, and walk-in shower. It was very romantic and perfect for a couple’s getaway.
The Food at Glasbern Inn
By far, my favorite part of the stay at the Glasbern Inn was the food. A complimentary full country-style breakfast is included with overnight stays. Both Martin and my favorite meal was crème brûlée French toast. Currently, you can eat in the main dining room or have your food delivered to your room due to the pandemic. During our stay, we took advantage of both the dining room and room service.
Exploring Allentown
In addition to experiencing and exploring Glasbern Inn, Martin and I did leave the resort and eat at a local restaurant called Grille 3501 on my birthday. Having gone almost a year without eating at a restaurant, I was nervous about how it would be sitting down eating in a restaurant. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how distant the tables were from one another. I had the filet mignon, and Martin had the Salmon. Neither of us had any complaints; the food was excellent. I ordered the Blueberry crème brûlée for dessert, and it was awesome. As you all can tell, I love crème brûlée.
Trip Cut Short
Our trip ended up being cut short because my son Deuce had an accident. He fell off the bed and hit his head on a table corner. We were not sure if he had a concussion and left early because of it. Though the trip was cut short, we enjoyed the time we had together. Other than the trip not being long enough, I have no other complaints.
All in all, I enjoyed my quick birthday getaway and the time that I got to spend with my husband. The Glassbern Inn did not disappoint, and neither did Grille 3501. So, how are you spending your birthday during the pandemic? Let me know in the comments below.
