Balancing Motherhood and a Busy Job: How To Get it Done

Getting the balance right between motherhood and working has never been an easy task. As soon as you find some sort of sustainable flow, there will always be a hurdle for you to overcome. When you’re working in a busy industry and trying to keep your household afloat, there isn’t often time to sit back and think about what you can do to actually handle all of your evergrowing checklists. Whether you’re planning spring break activities or liaising with work clients, you are constantly spinning several plates at once without a break. If this sounds relatable, here are a handful of ideas to help you find the balance you’ve always wanted between work and home.

Separate Work and Home Life Completely

There are times when you’re trying to work at home and you simply can’t concentrate because you’re in your family environment. Although you may feel privileged to be able to carry out a lot of your work at home, or close to home, you may sometimes feel unable to focus. It may be worth considering roles that allow you to completely separate your home life from work by working away for short stints of time, from ER jobs in different cities, to office work in a neighboring county, it is much easier to focus on work when you’re physically distanced from everything in your home life.

Get Help Around the House

Let’s face it, there is no mom in the world that feels completely on top of their housework, chores, laundry and grocery shopping. Getting some help with these day to day tasks will give you more time to focus on your work and kids, rather than feeling stressed about your never ending to-do list.

Reduce Your Working Hours If You Need To

Wearing the badge of honor of working full time may be something you have pride in, but if it’s affecting your home life and experience of motherhood, you may want to reconsider it. Reducing your working hours, and cutting back on work may help you to find more of a balance so that you can spend more time with your kids whilst they’re very young.

Be Kind to Yourself

Showing yourself kindness and compassion has never been more important, especially if you’re a busy working mom. Don’t talk down on yourself when you feel as though you aren’t achieving everything you’d hoped for. Treat yourself with care and allow yourself to take a break when things seem a little too much.

Being a working mom will never be a walk in the park; finding the perfect balance simply doesn’t exist so you have to work with what you’ve got and try your very best. Whether you need to separate your working life from your home life in a more significant way, or you simply try to be kinder to yourself whilst living through the juggle, all of these methods may help you to get back on track with your work life balance.
