Homemade Hand Sanitizer

With commercial hand sanitizer flying off the shelves amid this coronavirus outbreak, one way that you can help protect yourself and your family is by making your own homemade hand sanitizer. Search any of the major retailers like Amazon, Target, or Walmart, and you will find it very difficult to get your hands on commercial hand sanitizer. With everyone going coronavirus crazy, this is one way that you can protect your family from the spread of germs.
What can we do?
We all know that washing our hands is the best method of protection against this virus and most other illnesses, but often hand sanitizer is the most convenient cleansing method. There are also times that we may be in spaces where soap and water are not available. Creating homemade hand sanitizer and carrying it around with you might be a way to help slow the spread of this vicious virus. Looking to the future, this is also one way that you can ensure that you are always prepared for future cold and flu seasons regardless of what is happening in the stores.
Both CBS News and Fox News provided the same recipe to make homemade hand sanitizer:
- 2/3 cup of rubbing alcohol (should be at least 90% Isopropyl)
- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
- 5-10 drops of essential oil (optional)
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Funnel
- Two-ounce spray bottle or a liquid soap container
- Masking tape and pen or marker for labeling the container (or adhesive labels)
Directions: Mix the alcohol and aloe vera gel in the bowl and stir until blended well. Add as many drops as desired of the essential oil to help mask the smell of alcohol. Use the funnel to pour the eight-ounce mixtures into containers or spray bottles. Label the bottle with the masking tape to identify its contents.
