50 Spring Break Activities For Families Staying Home for Spring Break
Spring break is coming, and I need to start thinking about what that will look like for my family. We will not be traveling this year during spring break, so I must prepare for our spring break activities in advance. Too often, I wait until spring break is here to figure out how to entertain my children and fail miserably! While I will not be working most of the week that the children have off, I will be working for a portion of it. Due to this, I want to ensure that I have thoughtfully planned and prepared some spring break activities that they can participate in independently, as well as some spring break activities we can do together and create memories.
As much as possible, I keep things simple. The less prep that I need to do, the better. The best options are the ones that they can manage on their own while I am working. This list is inclusive of spring break activities that we can do together or that they can do by themselves. Here is a range of fun things to do with your children during spring break:
Outdoor Spring Break Activities
(If you’re local to Delaware, here are some fun things to do in Delaware this spring.)
- Plant a garden in the backyard
- Take a nature walk and collect exciting items from the outdoors
- Visit a local farm or petting zoo – Check out 3 Palms Zoo if you live near Delaware.
- Go camping (or glamping) in the backyard
- Have a picnic in the park
- Go on a bike ride
- Visit a local museum
- Go on a scavenger hunt
- Create a fun obstacle course in the backyard
- Play hide and seek
- Create a drive-in movie experience in your backyard with a projector and retro popcorn machine
- Have a water fight with water balloons
- Have a bonfire or break out the fire pit
- Draw pictures of nature scenes
- Enroll your children in a spring break camp
- Plant a tree
- Fly a kite
- Make a lemonade stand
- Play frisbee
- Have a bubble-blowing contest – or get a bubble blower and let the children enjoy it.
- Play catch
- Host an Easter egg hunt in the backyard or visit a local Easter egg hunt
- Visit the library and grab some children’s books for the week.
- Play with sidewalk chalk
- Visit an amusement park – Our favorite local amusement parks for little kids are Dutch Wonderland and Hershey Park.
Indoor Spring Break Activities

- Go to the aquarium – Our favorite aquarium is The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Md.
- Make homemade playdough
- Have a pillow fight
- Cook a meal together
- Make a scrapbook
- Put together a model car or plane
- Make homemade ice cream
- Have a family board game night
- Build a fort with furniture
- Create a time capsule
- Host a karaoke night with friends
- Play hide and seek
- Bake a batch of cookies and decorate them for spring
- Have a movie marathon
- Have a science experiment day
- Visit a children’s museum – We are big fans of the Delaware Children’s Museum.
- Visit a trampoline park
- Have a pizza-making contest
- Spend time with grandparents
- Do a spring craft
- Decorate Easter eggs (without the mess)
- Break out your paint sets and create beautiful spring scenes
- Have a family video game tournament
- Decorate your home for spring
- Have a dance party
